Environmental Resilience

We can grow the urban footprint of Raleigh and enable conscious environmental sustainability.

Hurricane Helene was a unfortunate reminder of the impact that nature can cause to existing ideas of normalcy. Raleigh's rapid urbanization will continue to challenge the ability of city infrastructure to handle the downstream effects of increased population.
We can't wait for another "Helene like" event to get prepared.

- Utilize North Carolina's vibrant history, deep talent bench and environmental subject-matter expertise as an asset
- Engage innovative research at NC State University and NC State Extension to develop tightly integrated environmental support systems
- Deploy novel landscape design and architectural principles to Raleigh neighborhoods and common spaces
- Continue the deployment of smart city technology to alert maintenance staff of potential problems (liter, waste collection services, utility outages, etc)
- Advocate for continued protection of our parks, streams, greenways, landscapes, and waterways

Jevon is a strong supporter of environmental sustainability. He believes in the parity of supporting new urban city initiatives while balancing common-sense ecological policy. A motivating factor in his decision to run for office was his firsthand experience and support for recovery efforts following Hurricane Helene. In his technical leadership role of NC State Ag Research Tech, he deployed as a 1st responder. Within 48 hours, he was in Asheville working alongside NC State Extension, FEMA, NC Department of Agriculture, and the National Guard.

The NC State Research and Extension teams delivered the 1st wave of Starlink units to aid in restoring critical communications to critical state level sites.

"Seeing Asheville's devastation firsthand was humbling and should make us all feel a shared responsibility to address climate risks before such events become more common." - Jevon Smith
