Public Safety

Raleigh District D has the unique pleasure of serving some of Raleigh's most visible and high-traffic locations (e.g., GoRaleigh Station, Dix Park, Glenwood South, Raleigh Convention Center, and  Lenovo Center ). District D is also home to many of Raleigh's public and private universities: NC State University, Meredith College, Shaw University, and Campbell University School of Law.

This dynamic requires leadership that understands the origins of crime and it's core socioeconomic drivers.

Jevon's vision of public safety is data-driven, stoic and community focused.

  • Listen to and incorporate ides from residents in District D

  • Survey police and fire leadership to define future policy and support

  • Improve awareness and adoption of existing community and mental health initiatives (ACORNS, See Something, Say Something, etc)

  • Engage youth demographics that make up an alarming number of property crime offenders

  • Enhance community engagement and trust (crime prevention is a community effort)

  • Continue to deploy advanced crime prevention and deterrence technologies

  • Partner with regional startups, research centers, and universities to investigate new public safety opportunities

  • Continue to find new federal grant opportunities related to public safety and emergency operations support

  • Safety of parks and greenways

"My dad is committed to ensuring the city is safe for current and future citizens. I am proud of his dedication."
Genesis Smith - Athens Drive High School
"It's important that we don't become complacent with the current public safety climate in Raleigh. Although recent trends here in Raleigh follow national declines in many categories, the recent volatility in federal funding support of social programs could create uncertainty in the coming years." Raleigh residents expect a city council to think and prepare for unknowns that could create a less than favorable quality of life."
